Ok, I don't know if this would be the right place to post this one but I didn't know where else to do so.

Anyway, I was just wondering, My akismet says it has caught 119 spam comments, is this good that I'm getting spam? I know no one likes spam, whether from a can or on the computer, but doesn't that mean my site is known? Or am I just being hopeful?

Mine says 6,482 spam...that is only four months worth!

I can’t really comment on whether your site is known or not but I know the feeling of getting spam! I actually ended up putting an image verification on my comments box so that the "spam bots" couldn’t post messages as I had a sudden influx of spam messages all to do with the same things and it was so frustrating getting it a few times... I don’t actually use askimet although I plan to look into it more within the near future.

I get about 2000 a month, but it really varies.

Mine has caught like 319 but, I trash the spam every so often.

Getting more spam generally means your blog is more popular, at least amongst the spammers ;).

Actually I find that the longer your blog is around, the more comment spam you pick up. Also I believe that if you leave a lot of referral links in the form of comments, your blog will get more spam.

362 after 1 month

another blog I am on has 6,591 after a year and a few months.

Cool thanks Ben and Michael

Aye, akismet is a total godsend. Without it my blog would be so cluttered. That said, i don't get close to as much as most - perhaps 40-50/week.

I haven't started using akismet yet, so I've just been manually deleting my comment spam. I just activated it and I'm excited to see how good it works.
