Check it out, I'm discussing how to create a blogging roadmap. He entered my website and URL in incorrectly which isn't doing me any favours but hey, it happens.

Ironically enough, an item on my roadmap was to do at least one guest post on his site. Mission complete I guess, wouldn't mind doing a couple more in the future for exposure.

What's on your roadmap?

Congrats on getting on there, but I think you will find that Mr. Chow has less than an impeccable reputation around here. He's known for his shady tactics, but I guess many people respect him because he brings in that paper. Hopefully he fixes your link so you get the linkage you deserve along with the recognition.

My roadmap involves more multimedia type of stuff.

Meh. Cool, I guess, but the fellow is a bottom feeder, period. So much as hitting his site makes me feel slightly slimy.

The only thing I know about John Chow is that every low life in the land of blogs wants to be him. I was over there a couple times and he reminds me of what is typically thought of as a used care salesman. The one who sells lemons.

I don't have a blogging road map, I have a life road map. Though I'm sure all those people sitting at home trying to squeeze a couple hundred collars a month out of their blogs may need one.

I'm with Josh.

Like Cooper, I've got no blogging roadmap. I mean, I've been in it before blogging was redefined to what it is right now and after so many years, all I've done was put down everything I've had in my life.

I think most of here have a low opinion of John Chow. No doubt whatever he did worked for him, but thanks to him as well, blogging has a less honorable feel than it did before. He just makes it dirty, one of the reasons why I would never visit his site and anyone else that emulates him.

And although there is negative sentiment towards Chow I don't want you thinking that it is directed at all towards you seopher because that isn't the case. I've just known him from the beginning and I've caught him more than once pulling off shady tactics to get to where he is now.

Yup. Really no offense against you Seopher and not saying that you do emulate John Chow, its just that his legacy leaves a foul taste in my mouth and I know more than a handful of people who think he's a God or something and that's not really a good thing.

I would take his money though in a second, just not the way he goes about it lol. Looks like he has some fun parties though.

Thats the thing, his blog isn't about being warm and cuddly, it's about making money online in any way possible. So sure his site is covered in ads and most clickable things will benefit him financially in some way, but I really respect how militantly he monetises.

I appreciate that a lot of bloggers really dislike him but I have a lot of respect for the man; I figured that his site was a great place to try and gain exposure for my own (similar demographics), but he fudged up the link back to me. Ho hum, maybe next time.

I've caught him more than once pulling off shady tactics to get to where he is now.

That's the point I guess, most people despise him for that whereas I admire the tenacity. As everyone here will admit, blogging is quite a tough thing to do well (consistently) and John serves as part of my inspiration.

One reason I can't get on board with what he concentrates on; any way possible tends to damage things for the people that are doing this more legitimately.

And now he has critical mass, all he has to do is exist, posting a random picture of him at some charity event, or fooling around at CES or covering other people's work (be that through mentioning/reviewing or hiring guest writers). He doesn't have to innovate to make any of his money now he lives in this advertising ecosystem.

There are blogs I hate because of their cross-linking (gawker [gizmondo, vallywag, et al] mainly) but they actually do something for most/some of their content and I can respect them for that. Chow doesn't.

I understand your want to achieve what he has and I can definitely understand why you want to be featured on there (grab the audience by the balls, son), just that what you see on his website now isn't how he got rich to begin with, making his "if you did what I do, you'd be sitting opposite me at this charity do" content a little deceptive.

I guess I admire the man because of what he's achieved. I care too much about what people think (that's why I never read the comments on Digg for my content) and he clearly doesn't.

His content may not offer that much advice to average users anymore, with most posts focusing on ways for him to make money more than help people. But ultimately his demographic is one I'm trying to reach and I actually enjoy reading his blog.

You know what they say, the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.

I'm actually surprised, I think your post seopher is informative and I enjoyed reading it. They're definitely things I most likely could have heard elsewhere, but that doesn't really matter because I find it helpful in several ways. While I agree with Cooper it sounds just as much like a life-plan then a blogging road map, that's not a big issue.

On the other hand:

I've caught him more than once pulling off shady tactics to get to where he is now.

You can call it tenacity, but most people call it a lack of values. I'm also very curious where the scale resides as far as measuring who "blogs well".

Well said. Drug lords make tons of money, but I don't admire them for their "tenacity."

I've given you points for that, for blowing such a dramatic whole in my argument.

I mean at the very least get him to fix your name and link don't just walk away saying "oh well".

Good to see it was fixed, Seopher. :)

Good job Josh!

Seopher: Heh, thanks. And to clarify, I'm not trying to burst your bubble; hopefully your site will get some traffic from your guest post (now that he's fixed your URL). Just don't become him, that's all. :)

Bartoneus: It was your post that made me think of my response, so thanks really goes to you.

Josh: I know that mate, but you made a good point and deserved some rep for it.

Scrivs: You have NO idea how upset I was that he got that wrong, I sent him an email and made it clear in the comments. He's rectified it now but how many key demographic visitors did I lose that way?

Estarla: thanks!

I'm hoping it's not the last time I do a guest post for him ;)
