Shopping Craze in Madrid

Madrid is one of the considered valuable cities not just in Spain but also in the entire Europe. It is also considered as a city center for Fashion and Designing which could also be lined up with some popular cities like Paris and Milan.

The last time I've been in Madrid, I was amazed with the place. There are a lot of cathedrals, interesting building and well designed Hoteles Madrid. Accommodations are great just as how I find with the hotels in Barcelona. There are a lot of hotel 4 estrellas Madrid which definitely has excellent services.

Anyone can find everything they want in Madrid. Even hard shoppers could also do. People have come to the city to discover and look for sophisticating styles and eccentrics. Variety is the essence of shopping in the city. Any design and taste fashion could be found there either elegant, modern and alternative clothing. Madrid transcends fashion; its style cannot be defined. It is said that the city is the sum of all trends, an amazing living collage. I always look forward to the day I'll be coming back in Madrid for a shopping trip. Well, that would be near enough. Perhaps, my come back will have to be a group tour with friends by which we are going to do our long-planned shopping craze in madrid.

Amazon Associate

I'm an Amazon Associate, but I've not made more than $10 with it.

Advertising--and affiliate programs--are essentially a question of scale. If you have 100 visitors a month, it's probably not worth much effort to "monetize" a site. If you have 100 visitors a minute, even the most incompetent advertising/affiliate strategy is likely to make money.

I'd add, however, that both Amazon's program and Google's AdSense take most of the work out of doing it. So it's not as if you're wasting a great deal of time by signing up and making very little (or no) money.

I've gone pink for what I think is the third year now. Started out doing it back through 9r and didn't want to skip this year - although today is the fifth already.

I haven't been able to do much in the way of design stuff - just not enough time - but it's the first time I've gone pink on what is my new self-hosted domain and blog: Dotcomslashblog.

I still have to put up the announcement post and see if I can get people to send money of course.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Yes, it is THAT important that a whole month is dedicated to creating and spreading awareness on breast cancer.

Would you go pink for October? You don't have to redo your entire theme, really. That would take way too long. Simply put, you could just change your banner image to a pinkish one, or change your header colour (to pink, of course), or maybe just the colour of your links.

And when you're done, grab one of these pink buttons/badges and place it on your blog to show your support. Or better still, if you have time and more importantly, the expertise, you could also design some buttons/badges for the event.

Also, I will be running a contest on the Pink for October site, would you like to sponsor a prize that is worth about USD 50?

payment gateway-a relook

Your point is clouded. What would you like to see?

Paypal is dominant because it offers the best services to the most people with the most direct and simple way to implement them. More traditional payment gateways have a much higher cost, much more involved initial time investment in getting set up, and you have to deal with your bank as well as the gateway. These older gateways were dominant from the birth of e-commerce up until PayPal started offering business solutions. PayPal is the new guy to market, and the innovator in the field.

There will always be a dominant player in any market. That just means they're doing better. Nothing keeps them there except for their own choices and practices (and perhaps, momentum or laziness of customers.) Anyone can come in with a better idea and take the market from them. It may not be easy, but there is nothing gluing them into their dominant place.

Take a look at Microsoft. They've been in obvious decline for a few years, and many analyst now agree that they may be very close to the point of no return — if they haven't already passed it. Here's a titan that was so dominant that world governments tried to topple them. This may have contributed to their downfall, but it seems more likely that their own choices in business have led to it, coupled with good choices by their competitors.

Payment gateway - a relook
There appears to a mad rush for the only most popularly known Payment Gateway across the globe and that is: PAYPAL. Dominance by a single entity is not good as it implies an absolute monopoly and such organizations dont move with the moving economy - note that this is a very personal view.
Today what the young world needs is the ability of upcomming entrepreneurs to get mobile faster and working within their resources. The monopoly of any individual concerns may hinder the growth potentiality of those having extremely acceptable IDEAS to manoeuver in the real life situations.
Thoughts in this direction would be appreciated.

That's a good point, they are into selling mobile advertising so they do have some incentive. Mind you gorilla nation keep sending me pitch notifications to say they have offered space on my blog to various film companies. Which is odd when you consider i pulled their adds months ago. Taking 50% for sticking horrific run of the network ads on my blog and pretending to pitch, did not strike me as a good deal.

Hello Chaps and chappets

I got an email last night from a representative of Snakk Media, who wants to talk about syndicating my blogs content for mobile users. They seem reputable (have done deals with vodafone in New Zealand etc.), but as i consider mobile browsing a step to far into geekery (when i leave the house / office its often because I don't want to stare at any more screens) I don't know anything about it.

In the past I've been invited into advertising networks, content syndication to msm, video search syndication and all kinds of other things. Which tend to have the running theme ... that really for the amount of money I received where all a bit of a waste of time. Partly because i am UK based and of revenue tends to be half in real terms what it would be for a US based blogger. Anyway at the moment I have my site stripped right down to one column with no adds etc. and kind of like the freedom of not really worrying about posting things that will piss off advertisers etc. (not that I think I particularly do). So while I will speak to them, I will obviously get the sales pitch and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them.

Mike posted a note sometime back about MT's security as compared to Wordpress, and it got me thinking about switching platforms. I wanted to install a MT 4.1 test blog immediately, but a hop over to MT.org's blog suggested a wait until they released version 4.2. Okay, I thought - speed upgrade of up to 100%? Might as well wait a couple more months.

Well here it is.

And what a job they've done with MT! On one hand I'm wondering just how far you can push the envelope considering it's Perl, but the Six Apart people have built MT into a CMS with a focus on the more social aspects of the web. You get threaded comments, forums and the option to create static standalone webpages ... honest to God amazing stuff.

What are your thoughts on this? Is MT really as secure as Anil says it is? Or is it secure just because there's less people using it (like Macs)?

For all you site owners out there who want to be part of something special Round 7 of 9rules is open for about 12.5 more hours so you still have time to submit your site. What I enjoy about these rounds is the diversity of content that we come across. It's amazing to me how information can spread across the web and simply one person telling their readers that 9rules has a round means that 10 more niches seem to open up for us.

With millions upon millions of blogs on the web it is good to see that there are still some people who simply write because they are passionate about a subject and aren't trying to chase the money (if you are good it somehow comes to you). I love money so don't get me confused, but I can't recall a blog that had it's #1 goal of chasing the money being a blog that I wanted to read.

Either way if you decide to submit I wish you the best of luck, it's never an easy task to open up your world to others.

Ralph, hate to break it to you man, but welcome to the military. My husband was AF for 24 years, and frankly, you'll be lucky if that's the last thing of this nature that gets shoved down your throat. If it's always the "other guys" from some other squadron and never your own CO that gives you shit and thinks you're worth nothing and that you don't matter, you'll be doubly lucky.

And no, it's not all negative in the military, but honestly, all it takes is ONE dipshit CO who takes a dislike to you to ruin your chances for promotion. With the AF, it tends to be a slower promotion rate than the other forces anyway, and all it takes is ONE jerk to completely stall it for years. This is why my husband retired as an E7 after 24 years of active duty, and he'd worn the rank barely long enough to collect retirement at the E7 rate at it was. Just one Colonel who was a jackass and gave him one not so good review at about the halfway point of his career effectively stalled it. Being in the manpower field (the slowest promoting one in the AF, it's said) didn't help the matter, but the Colonel sealed the deal.

I also wouldn't recommend blogging about it quite so openly. No matter what the average person's rights to free speech are, in the military you have NO rights to free speech, really. You don't get to say what you want from what I've seen, and the military does watch out for active duty members with blogs now. Maybe you don't have access to classified info, and maybe you'd never blog about that if you did, and maybe you just want to grouse about your treatment, but if somebody decides you've said something you shouldn't have, well, do you really want to take that chance?

Just my two cents, guy. Good luck to you.

*Edit* I changed the above to read E7, because my husband reminded me that he retired as E7, not E8, which makes the whole point about promotion even more valid.

True jensized. I've seen FAR too many news articles and follow up blog posts about losing their job for using their blog to publicly complain about their job.

Sure. But I would never, ever, ever, ever use my blog as a grandstand to complain about my job. I've many times been surprised to find out who reads it.

I think RightOn makes the crucial distinction in my mind. I try hard not to blog my personal grievances. I do however sometimes "complain" about ugly design, muddled thinking, the state of the world, etc.

That said, if you consider your blog a more personal and intimate thing, I'm not sure it would be out of place. A personal blogger (dooce, for example) could complain without it feeling even remotely out of place.

I try not to make it a platform for personal grievances as it (from my experience) can possibly drive away my readers.

In your case it may be different but it would be like going to TUAW.com and plowing through personal gripe posts to get to the content... I would leave.

It's a double edged sword to use your blog to complain. On one hand, it can make a difference, on the other, it can backfire on you. The trick is to always back up what you say with a valid point. Even then, personally, blogging for me does nothing but get it off my mind. I still need to do something about it. I've never taken it any further than having the other party confront me about what I have to say.

Hope you make a difference with it.
