I wrote today about a misunderstanding resulting in a nonexistent word ending up in the Webster's New International Dictionary. (An interesting read, if you've got a few minutes.)
But now the nerd in me wants a copy of that dictionary. I just have no idea how to go about obtaining it. It was first published in 1939, so I would imagine copies [in good condition] are fairly thin on the ground.
I had a quick look on eBay and couldn't find a copy there, though I'd rather avoid eBay altogether.
Any suggestions?

Oops. 1934, not '39.

I would suggest you try abebooks.com The site is a resource for book stores, vendors and shops that sell used books, out-of-date books, new books, etc.
I have purchased three books off book dealers listed on their site, within the past two years, and have been extremely satisfied.

Found one on eBay! (Thanks to Erin.)
I am soon to be the pround owner of a Meriam Webster's International Dictionary, Second Edition, published in 1937!
... I just spent £70 on a dictionary. Am I insane?

Congratulations. I would have suggested eBay, but you said you had wanted to avoid it.
Enjoy.

No. Just.. dedicated. ;)
And the volume will likely increase in value over time (as books tend to do). Consider it an investment, with a twist.

Brendan, you don't have to sugarcoat it. He knows he's crazy. But that's part of what's so endearing.
Congrats on your dictionary, Richard. :)
