Ok, how many of you remember those awesome "choose your own adventure" books? The ones that on the bottom of each page it would give you an option like:
"if you want Jimmy and Betty to get married and live happily ever after turn to page 23, or if you want to see aliens come down and rip off Jimmy's legs and beat Betty to death with them turn to page 74.

Anyway, I was thinking it would be cool if we put one together with our blogs. We would come up with a story line with several options throughout the story and link to different blogs for different outcomes. I bet we could even get into the Guinness Book Of World Records or something.

Oh, a blook you mean? Hrmm, hrmm. We'll need a writer.

Um, we are all writers here..... well most of us anyway

That's a pretty cool idea. I'm game if this goes anywhere.

That is a actually a really interesting idea. Count me in if you get it together.

Awesome idea.

Omg! I could totally see this working as a meme!

Someone starts, and then tags people, and each of those people write a part. And so on and so on. And you could tag people who had done it before, because it'd be a new post.

You'd just have to make sure that each "post" had a link back to the very first meme, so that whoever stumbles across it can head back to the begining.

If this happens, someone better tag me. :)

That does sound pretty awesome...

Cool, now all we have to do is figure out how it should start, and what the genre should be. any suggestions?

Let's make it accessible? Real world stories. Or real life ones. Aliens and zombies won't be nice to read on everyone's blogs.

How about if it were a real world problem about a college grad with many different talents and several oportunities and relationships to grow next with? Too corny?

@auburn: Too animeish. And all too real. And not everyone's attended college.

How about making the story about whatever the hell anyone wants? Zombies? Romance? Space Aliens? The Chiquita Banana lady? Iraq? Buddha on a pogo stick? My left toe? Maybe have it so that if a person posts a continuation of your story they put up a link comment on that post (since some people don't have or observe trackbacks). This way the reader can choose their own adventure. If one's not written that they like, they can write their own. The author can also always link back to other exsiting threads (posts) in the story so that his/her post automatically has a place to go, in addition to a link to the original post so they know where to start.

This is a great idea. I would suggest that if it took the form of a meme that not only should there be a link back to the starting page but that each new post should link back to the post that immediately preceeds and of course forward to the post that follows it, so as to achieve a 'page turning' effect.

I have experience in online collaborative writing. I facilitated the writing of two online plays, each one involving 4 people. At that level maintaining a high standard of input was a possibility. At the level we are talking about here given the potentially wide author base, the story may well spiral into something we come to loathe -- the usual route is for it to descend into crass humour and sensationalism for the sake of attracting readership. If there were a mechanism to prevent this from happening on the other hand then I'd be all for it.
